The European project “Boosting Education Quality and Entrepreneurial Mindsets for Natural Sciences in Ukraine – BOOSTSCIENCE” officially kicked off on 15–16 January 2026 in Athens, Greece, marking the start of an ambitious three-year collaboration to support the modernisation of Higher Education Institutions in Ukraine.
During the kick-off meeting, project partners from Greece, Spain and Ukraine reaffirmed their commitment to the successful implementation of BOOSTSCIENCE, shared a common understanding of the project’s vision and confirmed their dedication to delivering high-quality and impactful results.
A European Partnership for Higher Education Innovation
BOOSTSCIENCE brings together twelve partners from three European countries. The project is coordinated by the Hellenic Open University, Greece, through the involvement of the Laboratory of Chemistry, the Laboratory of Biology, and the Dynamic Ambient Intelligent Sociotechnical Systems Research Group, under the scientific coordination of Professor of Chemistry Kyriakos Bourikas.
The consortium includes:

Modernising Natural Sciences Education in Ukraine
The main goal of BOOSTSCIENCE is to support the modernisation of Ukrainian Higher Education Institutions by developing an innovative distance-learning module for master-level students in Biology and Chemistry.
This module will combine:
- Virtual laboratory exercises
- Research-based learning
- Work-based learning
- Problem-based learning
- Entrepreneurial learning activities
Through this approach, BOOSTSCIENCE will help students acquire advanced, market-relevant skills while addressing the gap between higher education and labour market needs.
Supporting Employability and Entrepreneurial Mindsets
BOOSTSCIENCE aims to upskill more than 200 Ukrainian students, generating long-term impact across academic, research, entrepreneurial and wider stakeholder communities in both Ukraine and Europe.
By integrating scientific education with entrepreneurial learning and practical digital tools, the project will strengthen students’ employability and support the development of innovation-oriented mindsets in the field of Natural Sciences.
A Positive Start for a Three-Year Collaboration
The positive and constructive atmosphere of the kick-off meeting set the tone for the collaboration ahead. The consortium will now work together to ensure the successful implementation of BOOSTSCIENCE and to maximise its long-term impact at national and European level.
BOOSTSCIENCE is a three-year project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, under the Capacity Building in Higher Education action of the European Union.
